Dr. John Danesh

Biography

John Danesh is a globally recognized leader in the field of molecular epidemiology, serving as the Head of the Department of Public Health and Primary Care at the University of Cambridge. He is also a Faculty Member of the Wellcome Sanger Institute and an Honorary Consultant at the Cambridge University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust (Addenbrooke’s Hospital). As the Founder-Director of the Cardiovascular Epidemiology Unit and Director of Health Data Research UK-Cambridge, Professor Danesh has significantly contributed to the understanding of cardiovascular risk factors and the development of innovative strategies for disease prevention. His research culminates in over 300 published papers with around 200,000 citations to date, demonstrating his profound impact in the field, evidenced by an h-index exceeding 150. An alumnus of New Zealand and Oxford, where he was a Rhodes Scholar, Professor Danesh has co-led the creation of major multi-dimensional research platforms involving participant cohorts from low-income countries. His advisory roles extend to initiatives such as the UK Biobank, along with various funding bodies and pharmaceutical companies. He has received numerous accolades including the British Heart Foundation Personal Chair and the European Research Council Advanced Investigator Award, further affirming his contributions to public health.
