Dr. John Dattilo

Biography

John Dattilo is a Professor Emeritus in the Department of Recreation, Park, and Tourism Management at Pennsylvania State University. His research primarily focuses on understanding how to support people in encountering challenges related to leisure experiences. He teaches inclusive leisure services, leisure philosophy, theories, and research methods. He has been involved in various scholarly inquiries related to leisure engagement and has worked to develop and assess leisure education programs for individuals facing challenges in leisure contexts. With a Ph.D. in Leisure Studies from the University of Illinois and a Master's degree in Recreation from the University of Arizona, Dattilo has dedicated his career to exploring the perceptions of leisure and the constraints that individuals face. His work also emphasizes the importance of social justice and inclusion in leisure services, advocating for effective practices that cater to diverse audiences.
