Biography

John de Wit is a professor in the Department of Interdisciplinary Social Science at Utrecht University, where he has been a faculty member since September 2018. His career spans over 30 years in social psychology, health psychology, public health, and health promotion. Previously, he served as the Director of the Centre for Social Research in Health at UNSW Sydney from July 2008 to April 2016 and held a special appointment in Social Psychology of Health and Sexuality at Utrecht University from June 2007 to 2012. De Wit focuses on behaviors and interventions that relate to health and well-being, with particular research interests in the global HIV response, key populations, STIs, sexual coercion, innovations in prevention and treatment, and access to health services for minority communities. An established research leader, he has garnered over €26 million in competitive funding, published more than 250 works, and maintains an h-index of 55. De Wit is active in academic leadership as a member of various committees and boards, and he contributes to educational programs, teaching at undergraduate and doctoral levels, as well as supervising numerous PhD students on diverse topics.
