John de Figueiredo is the Russell M. Robinson II Professor of Law, Strategy, and Economics at Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business. He is also the Director of the Duke Center for Institutional and Organizational Performance and a Research Associate at the National Bureau of Economic Research. His research focuses on competitive strategy, innovation strategy, and political-legal strategy, employing quantitative analytical methods to examine the intersection of firms, technology, and regulatory institutions through the lenses of economics, law, political science, and management. Before joining Duke University, he held faculty positions at the University of California, Los Angeles, and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and has visited Princeton University, Harvard Law School, INSEAD, and the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton, NJ, as a long-term visitor. Throughout his career, de Figueiredo has served on the editorial boards of several academic journals, received numerous research grants, and won five teaching awards. He is also a member of the Board of Directors at Employers Insurance Group (NYSE: EIG). He holds a Ph.D. in Business Administration from the University of California, Berkeley, a Master of Science in Economics from the London School of Economics, and an A.B. in Economics from Harvard University.
