Biography

John Donoghue is the H.M. Wriston Professor of Neuroscience and Engineering at Brown University, where he leads a pioneering laboratory focused on neurotechnology and brain-computer interfaces. He is known for his translational research aimed at restoring movement in people with paralysis through innovative applications, including the 'BrainGate' technology. As a founding chair of the Brown Department of Neuroscience and director of the Brown Institute for Brain Science, he has significantly influenced research in neurorestoration and neurotechnology. His lab investigates how neural populations in the cerebral cortex encode complex information and transform thoughts into voluntary actions. He is a member of the B.R.A.I.N. initiative’s NIH Working Group and a fellow of several prestigious academies, including the National Academy of Medicine.
