Biography

John Durrell is a Professor of Superconductor Engineering at the University of Cambridge and a member of the Bulk Superconductivity Group. He received his MSci in Physics from Imperial College in 1997 and his PhD in Materials Science from the University of Cambridge in 2001. Since October 2010, he has served as a professor, previously holding positions as a Senior Research Associate and Assistant Director of Studies at Pembroke College. His research interests focus on the structure and properties of superconductors, particularly understanding flux line lattice structures, pinning mechanisms, and applications of superconducting materials. Previously, Durrell held an EPSRC Advanced Research Fellowship in the Device Materials Group at the University of Linz and served as Director of Studies in Natural Sciences at Hughes Hall. He has contributed significantly to the field, holding various editorial positions and being involved in multiple superconductivity-related committees. He is recognized for his work, having received the IOP Superconductivity Group Prize in 2012 and having an active role in numerous professional societies.
