John Bright Eck is an Associate Professor in the Department of Anesthesiology and Pediatrics at Duke University. His current research focuses on pediatric regional anesthesia and education, particularly regarding the management of post-operative pain in children, which remains under-treated in many clinical settings. Over the past two decades, he has made significant progress in utilizing regional anesthetic techniques such as caudal and epidural anesthesia to provide excellent pain relief for pediatric patients, thereby reducing the stress response associated with surgical procedures. He has extensively studied various methods of analgesia, including intravenous narcotics, and has explored the efficacy of peripheral nerve blockade techniques, including continuous infusion methods and nerve plexus blockade. Additionally, Dr. Eck is interested in developing and studying teaching methods for these techniques to enhance resident education. He completed his residency at Duke University in Anesthesiology and has held past appointments as Associate Clinical Professor and Assistant Professor in the same department.
