Dr. John Elefteriades

Biography

John Elefteriades is a prominent authority in cardiac surgery, specifically recognized for his work in adult cardiac and thoracic surgery. He graduated magna cum laude with a triple concentration in Physics, French, and Psychology from Yale University and later received his MD from Yale University School of Medicine. With extensive training in general and cardiothoracic surgery, he joined the Yale faculty, where his clinical and research activities focus on interventions related to the failing left ventricle, coronary artery bypass grafting, and artificial heart implantation. As the director of the Aortic Institute at Yale, he oversees one of the largest facilities for treating dilated thoracic aorta in the nation. Elefteriades has conducted significant laboratory research aimed at identifying genetic mutations linked to thoracic aortic aneurysms and has authored over 400 scientific publications. He has received multiple honors for his contributions to the field, including a Walter Bleifeld Memorial Award, a Socrates Award from the Thoracic Residents Association, and an honorary PhD from the University of Liege. Throughout his career, he has been a sought-after lecturer and has served on various scientific advisory and editorial boards.
