Dr. John Fairbank

Biography

John Fairbank is a Professor at Duke University in the Department of Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences and also in the Department of Psychology & Neuroscience. His academic focus includes researching the scope, impact, assessment, and treatment of traumatic stress reactions in both children and adults, with a particular emphasis on posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Fairbank's work extends to implementation science and mental health services research, addressing the needs of those affected by trauma. He holds a Ph.D. from Auburn University, awarded in 1980, and has held various academic positions including Associate Professor and Adjunct Associate Professor at Duke University. He has been involved in significant research initiatives and projects, supported by grants from organizations like the National Institute of Mental Health and the National Center for Child Traumatic Stress. He has participated in professional activities aimed at addressing the educational and psychological needs of children and families, particularly in transitional housing situations. Fairbank has a longstanding commitment to improving mental health services for trauma-affected populations.
