Biography

John Morris Fairbrother graduated with a Bachelor of Veterinary Science from the University of Sydney in 1972 and worked as a veterinarian in Australia for five years before pursuing a Ph.D. at Cornell University. Upon earning his doctorate in 1981, he joined the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at the Université de Montréal, where he established a research program focused on the pathogenic mechanisms and control of E. coli originating from animals. In 2003, he co-founded Prevtec Microbia Inc., a biotechnology company specializing in preventive methods in animal production. In 2006, his laboratory was designated a reference laboratory for Escherichia coli by the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE), marking him as a global expert for E. coli. He holds a professorship in the Department of Pathology and Microbiology and is involved in various research groups and numerous scientific committees. He has authored over a hundred scientific papers and holds several patents. His current research activities primarily focus on diagnostics, epidemiological surveillance, research and development, and training, aiming to foster international collaborations for E. coli characterization and monitoring.
