Dr. John Farrell

Biography

John P. Farrell is a Professor Emeritus in the English Department at the University of Texas at Austin, where he has significantly contributed to the fields of Victorian literature, romantic literature, and contemporary poetry. He earned his Ph.D. from Indiana University in 1967 and began his teaching career at the University of Kansas until 1974, when he joined the faculty at UT Austin. His scholarship encompasses a diverse range of interests, including contemporary Irish literature and the historical implications of Rousseau's work on modern social theories. Throughout his academic career, Professor Farrell has received several notable honors, including Faculty Research Assignment grants and a fellowship from the American Council of Learned Societies, recognizing his contributions to humanities education. He is also a recipient of the Outstanding Teaching Award from his college, reflecting his dedication to student engagement and pedagogical excellence.
