Dr. John Gallacher

Biography

John Gallacher is a Professor of Cognitive Health at the University of Oxford and the Director of Dementias Platform UK, as well as the Director of the BrainWaves study focusing on adolescent wellbeing and mental health. He is an expert in brain health and utilizes big data in medical research. He holds visiting professorships at Imperial College London and an honorary professorship at the University of Hong Kong. As the Principal Investigator of the Caerphilly Prospective Study (CaPS), he contributes to significant research efforts in dementia. The Dementias Platform UK (DPUK) is a public-private partnership core funded by the Medical Research Council aimed at accelerating dementia research. Based in Oxford, DPUK collaborates with universities, charities, and pharmaceutical technology companies to provide scientists with access to the latest data and technologies, thereby bridging the gap between fundamental discoveries in the lab and successful trials for new dementia treatments. His work with BrainWaves is focused on understanding the factors that contribute to positive wellbeing and poor mental health in young people by conducting large cohort studies and delivering evidence-based educational materials in schools.
