John obtained his BSc in Molecular Biology from University College London in 2004 and continued to complete his MRes and PhD in Molecular Biology at the University of Edinburgh, working on the Wellcome Trust funded Molecular Basis of Disease programme. His PhD research focused on exploring mechanisms by which gastrointestinal worms modulate their host's adaptive immune system. Following his PhD, he worked as a visiting research fellow at the NIH in the USA, developing a keen interest in the functions of immune cell populations during infections. In 2014, he established his research group at the University of Manchester with a focus on myeloid cells and precision medicine.
