Biography

John Greenlees obtained his PhD from Cambridge in 1986. He spent three years at the National University of Singapore and a year at the University of Chicago before moving to Sheffield in 1990. There, he served as Head of the Department of Pure Mathematics and later as Head of the School of Mathematics and Statistics for 28 years, before moving to the University of Warwick in 2018. At Warwick, he served as Head of the Department from 2018 to 2023. Greenlees has published over 100 papers and 4 books primarily in algebraic topology. He has served as Managing Editor of the 'Journal of Topology' and is a member of editorial boards for several academic journals, including 'Algebraic & Geometric Topology' and 'Homology, Homotopy and Applications'. In addition, he has acted as an undergraduate External Examiner for five institutions and has conducted external reviews for seven departments. Greenlees has organized Homotopy Theory meetings and contributed significantly to various scientific committees. His research interests include algebraic topology, commutative algebra, and representation theory.
