Dr. John Greil

Biography

John Greil is a Clinical Professor at the University of Texas School of Law, where he co-teaches the Law Religion Clinic. He supervises student-led representations in litigation, transaction, and consulting services, and is an active trial-level appellate litigator in state and federal courts, regularly supporting clients before the United States Supreme Court. With expertise in law and religion, Professor Greil teaches a seminar titled Understanding Conservative Legal Thought. Prior to joining the faculty, he practiced at Vinson & Elkins LLP and clerked for U.S. Court of Appeals Chief Judge Jennifer Walker Elrod. Greil is a graduate of Harvard Law School and the University of Notre Dame, where he served as Executive Editor of the Harvard Journal of Law & Public Policy. His research has been published in the Villanova Law Review and the Harvard Journal of Law & Public Policy, and his legal commentary has appeared in the Wall Street Journal. He has represented clients from diverse faith backgrounds, including Protestants, Catholics, Amish, Mormons, Jews, Muslims, Hindus, Sikhs, and Native American Church members.
