Dr. John Harrington

Biography

John M. Harrington is a Senior Lecturer at Johns Hopkins University's School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS), where he specializes in International Economics. He has extensive experience in both academia and government, having taught full-time in various graduate programs, including the Master of Arts in International Relations and the Master of International Economics and Finance. In his prior role as Associate Dean of Academic Affairs at SAIS from 2002 to 2015, he contributed significantly to curricular development. His teaching expertise spans statistics, econometrics, and mathematics. Harrington has a 20-year tenure with the U.S. Department of State, focusing on economics education for foreign affairs professionals. He has managed programs related to economic policy in Latin America and the Caribbean, emphasizing regional economic ties and collaboration through various nonprofit organizations. Harrington also held a joint appointment as a senior fellow at the Institute for Policy Studies at Johns Hopkins University. He holds a B.S. in Mathematics and a Ph.D. in Economics from Georgetown University. His scholarly interests include Economics, Energy Issues, Environmental Issues, NAFTA, and Statistics.
