Dr. John Harwood

Biography

John Harwood is a Professor Emeritus at Penn State University, primarily affiliated with the College of Information Sciences and Technology. He served as Penn State's representative on the Committee on Institutional Cooperation's Learning Technologies Initiative and chaired the Implementation Committee for the university's student-computing initiative. Additionally, he has been an active member of the Teaching and Learning Consortium, focusing on improving the teaching and learning environment at Penn State, and has contributed as a member of the New Media Centers. His editorial experience includes serving as the editor for the "Electronic Campus" section of the Jossey-Bass journal, "Campus". Harwood’s research interests center around the humanities, particularly in computing humanities, 17th and 18th-century British literature, the technological impacts on teaching and research in the humanities, as well as the cultural implications of information technology. He has deeply studied the history of science, particularly regarding key figures from the early Royal Society. Harwood's teaching experience spans a wide range of courses at Penn State, where he was the director of composition programs, with a keen interest in writing courses that integrate information technology to enhance teaching and learning. He also taught seminars on 18th-century British history and ideas.
