Biography

John Henry works on the history of science and medicine during the Renaissance and nineteenth century, with a particular interest in the relationships and interactions between science, medicine, magic, philosophy, and religion in the early modern period. He has published a new edition and translation of Jean Fernel's major magical text, 'Hidden Causes of Things,' (1548), a significant work in Renaissance medicine. His recent publications include 'Scientific Revolution: Origins of Modern Science, Studies in European History, Revised Edition' (Palgrave Macmillan, 2008) and 'A Short History of Scientific Thought' (Palgrave Macmillan, 2012). His work particularly explores historical perspectives on the Scientific Revolution and its implications on contemporary scientific thought. In addition to his teaching and research activities, he has authored and edited several academic works on historical figures in science and their contributions to modern understanding of philosophy and medicine. Henry continues to engage with the academic community through his participation in conferences and publication of articles in prominent journals in the field.
