Biography

John Holdren is the Teresa John Heinz Professor of Environmental Policy at Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government and Co-Director of the School’s Science, Technology, and Public Policy Program. He is a research professor in Environmental Science Policy at the Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences and is an affiliated professor at the Paulson School of Engineering and Applied Science. He served as President Obama’s Science Advisor and was the longest-serving director of the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy, coordinating the United States' R&D strategy and oversaw various interagency programs. Holdren has made significant contributions to science and technology policy and has extensive experience advising on issues of climate change, public health, and national security. He earned his S.B. and S.M. degrees from M.I.T. and his Ph.D. from Stanford University. He has been honored with multiple awards including the MacArthur Prize and the Volvo International Environment Prize, and is a member of several prestigious scientific organizations.
