Biography

John Johnston aims to identify natural patterns and trends involving sediment, lake water levels, and climate to help predict future scenarios for the largest freshwater resources on Earth. Johnston is currently a leader of a large, multidisciplinary research group focused on the Mackenzie and Laurentian Great Lakes. He teaches several undergraduate geology courses, including a 3rd-year field camp. His research interests include sedimentology, stratigraphy, geomorphology, hydrogeology, geochronology, limnology, geodesy, geophysics, climatology, geochemistry, soils, and coring and sampling in remote locations. Additionally, he is involved in geoscience education, experiential online learning, and physical and digital models for field training of students and professionals.
