Dr. John Krystal

Biography

John Krystal, MD, is a leading expert in the neurobiology and treatment of psychiatric disorders, including alcoholism, depression, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and schizophrenia. His research integrates psychopharmacology, neuroimaging, molecular genetics, and computational neuroscience to understand the underlying mechanisms of these conditions. He is particularly known for his pioneering work on the rapid antidepressant effects of ketamine in depressed patients. At Yale University, he holds the title of Robert L. McNeil, Jr. Professor and chairs the Department of Psychiatry, while also serving as Chief of Psychiatry at the Yale New Haven Health System. His leadership extends to various roles, including co-directing the Yale Center for Clinical Investigation and the NIAAA Center for Translational Neuroscience of Alcoholism. He has participated in numerous advisory committees, influencing mental health research and policy at national levels.
