Biography

John Lapinski is the Robert Fox Leadership Professor of Political Science at the University of Pennsylvania and the Director of the Penn Program on Opinion Research and Election Studies. He serves as the Faculty Director of the Executive Masters in Public Administration program at the Fels Institute of Government. Lapinski is also the Director of the Elections Unit at NBC News, where he is responsible for projecting race outcomes and producing election-related stories, including exit polls, for NBC News, MSNBC, CNBC, Telemundo, and NBC’s digital properties. After earning his Ph.D. from Columbia University in 2000, Lapinski was an associate professor in the Department of Political Science at Yale University before joining the University of Pennsylvania in 2006. His primary research focuses on understanding national elections, lawmaking, and Congress through empirical analysis. He authored 'Substance Representation' (Princeton University Press, 2013) and co-authored 'Southern Nation' (Princeton University Press, 2018) with David Bateman and Ira Katznelson.
