Biography

Dr. John Lock completed his PhD at the Institute of Molecular Bioscience, University of Queensland. He began his postdoctoral research at the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm and received fellowships from the Wenner-Gren Foundation and the Swedish Cancer Foundation. He was rapidly promoted to Assistant Professor, recognized for his role in pioneering Systems Microscopy, leading a multidisciplinary team dedicated to cancer research. Dr. Lock returned to Australia to take a senior position at UNSW, where he played a key role in establishing Australia’s first dedicated Systems Microscopy facility with substantial funding from the Australian Research Council. His Cancer Systems Microscopy lab has collaborated with various researchers and clinicians, focusing on advancing precision medicine through innovations in cancer diagnostics and treatments. Dr. Lock is heavily involved in artificial intelligence research to enhance image data applications in precision medicine and has co-founded the Systems Microscopy Australia Network to strengthen collaborative efforts in drug discovery and precision medicine. He has received multiple grants and awards recognizing his significant contributions to cancer research and technology development in Australia.
