Biography

John Lowe is the Joseph H. Blades Centennial Memorial Professor and Director of the Indigenous Nursing Research Enhancement (INRE) Post-Doctoral Fellowship Program at the University of Texas at Austin School of Nursing. As a member of the Advisory Council of the National Institute of Nursing Research, and an elected member of the American Academy of Nursing's Board of Directors, Dr. Lowe has made significant contributions to nursing and Indigenous health research. An alumnus of the Minority Fellowship Program by the American Nurses Association, he has served as Chair of the National Advisory Council for the MFP. Dr. Lowe has co-authored a conceptual framework for nursing in relation to Native American culture and developed strategies to combat substance use and mental health disorders among Indigenous youth globally. His impactful research has been funded by notable organizations such as the National Institutes of Health and the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration. Dr. Lowe's work on the Talking Circle intervention has gained recognition from the U.S. Department of Justice and he has received numerous awards for his contributions to nursing education and research. He has hosted International Indigenous Nursing Research Summits and is an esteemed member of several professional organizations, having published many articles and books in his field.
