Professor Dr. John Marsden

Biography

John Marsden is a Professor of Addictions Psychology and the Head of the Department of Addictions at King's College London, specifically within the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience (IoPPN). He has been a clinical research psychologist with a focus on behavioral and pharmacological therapies for substance use disorders since 1987. His research interests encompass treatment systems research, psychometrics, and psychiatric epidemiology. Marsden has served as the European editor for the journal Addiction and was a member of the Advisory Council on Misuse of Drugs from 2005 to 2009, as well as a founding member of the Independent Scientific Committee on Drugs. His work includes various contributions to peer-reviewed literature, including studies on the experiences of patients undergoing treatment for opioid use disorders, the therapeutic potential of psychedelics, and qualitative investigations into treatment outcomes for alcohol and drug misuse.
