Biography

John May is an Associate Professor at the Harvard Graduate School of Design, where he serves as Thesis Director and Co-Director. He is a founding partner at the Los Angeles-based design practice MILLIØNS, recognized for its innovative contributions to architecture and design. His works encompass completed projects in California, New York, Boston, Germany, and Beirut. He has been awarded for his design concepts, notably a competition to reimagine the west wing of I.M. Pei’s Everson Museum in Syracuse, New York. May has exhibited both solo and group works at prestigious venues such as the Friedman Benda Gallery and the Architecture + Design Museum in Los Angeles. His scholarly contributions include essays in celebrated publications, including the Harvard Design Magazine and e-flux. With a background in philosophy and visual art, he holds degrees from the College of William and Mary and the Harvard Graduate School of Design, as well as a doctorate from UCLA. His recent publications include 'Signal. Image. Architecture,' which explores the intersection of electronic imagery and urbanism, and 'Design Technics: Archaeologies of Architectural Practice,' co-edited with Zeynep Çelik Alexander.
