Biography

John McCafferty is an acclaimed figure in the field of biotechnology, particularly noted for his co-founding of Cambridge Antibody Technology (CAT) and subsequent companies, IONTAS and Maxion Therapeutics. His groundbreaking work in recombinant antibody technology contributed significantly to the development of therapeutic antibodies, including the creation of Humira, the world's top-selling drug. McCafferty is acknowledged as a co-investor for the Nobel Prize-winning invention of antibody phage display technology, which has led to the approval of fifteen therapeutic antibodies that are now used globally. He is currently an affiliated professor in the Department of Medicine at the University of Cambridge, where he focuses on applying recombinant antibody technology to tackle snakebite envenomation, a critical health issue in the developing world. Through collaborations, he leads efforts to develop oligoclonal chimeric antibody cocktails that offer a modern solution to the limitations of traditional anti-venom therapies.
