Biography

John McDonald specializes in hip, knee, and shoulder arthroscopy and general orthopaedics. He is an active member of the teaching faculty of Dell Medical School’s Orthopaedic Surgery Residency, where he works to advance the field of musculoskeletal care and trains the next generation of physicians and surgeons. In addition to fellowship training, McDonald received specialized training in knee and shoulder surgery in Norwich, England. He has been recognized by Texas Monthly as a Super Doctors Rising Star from 2017 to 2019 and on the Super Doctors list from 2019 to 2022. He has also been acknowledged by Austin Fit Magazine as an Orthopaedic Surgeon in 2014, 2016, 2017, 2019, and 2022, and by local peers in Austin Monthly as a Top Doctor in 2021 and 2023. McDonald has been a member of the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine National Research Committee from 2016 to 2020 and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery.
