Biography

Born in Athens, Greece, in 1955, John Peponis is a professor at Georgia Tech, having joined the faculty in 1989. He is recognized as an international leader in the field of spatial analysis and was among the original creators of space syntax. His work focuses on developing analytical concepts and methods for describing built space and measuring human affordances and functions. His publications explore the geometric and computational foundations of space syntax, the spatial culture of buildings and cities, design formulation, and design languages. Peponis has also conducted significant research in spatial cognition, work environments, and museums. He is a registered architect in Greece and has collaborated with Kokkinou and Kourkoulas Architects as a consultant since 1992.
