Dr. John Ravenhill

Biography

John Ravenhill is an Emeritus Professor of Political Science at the University of Waterloo. His areas of specialization include International Political Economy, Production Trade, Regionalism, and Economic Security. He has earned multiple degrees including a BSc in Economics from Hull, an LLB from Open University, UK, MAs from Indiana and Dalhousie, and a PhD from the University of California, Berkeley. Ravenhill has received numerous accolades, including the Distinguished Scholar Award from the International Studies Association’s International Political Economy section and election as a Fellow to the Academy of Social Sciences in Australia as well as the Australian Institute of International Affairs. He was the inaugural winner of the Australian Political Science Association’s L.F. Crisp Medal for his contributions to the discipline. His scholarly work has been published in leading journals such as International Organization, World Politics, and Review of International Political Economy. From 2015 to 2018, he served as the editor for the Review of International Political Economy. He has also co-edited a flagship book series and authored a recent book on the Political Economy of Automotive Industrialization in East Asia. Ravenhill has held visiting professor roles at several prestigious institutions and has acted as a consultant for organizations including the World Bank and the Asian Development Bank. He served as the Director of the Balsillie School of International Affairs from 2013 to 2019.
