Biography

John Paul Rollert's teaching and research focus on intellectual history, capitalism, ethics, leadership, and the application of empathy in law, business, and politics. He is particularly interested in political economy and the moral philosophy of Adam Smith. Rollert's academic writing has been published in notable journals such as Critical Inquiry, Raritan, Journal of Law, Culture & Humanities, Business and Society Review, Modernism/Modernity, Society, Yale Law Journal, and Business Professional Ethics Journal. In addition to his academic contributions, Rollert writes about business, law, and politics for various popular publications, including serving as the In-House Ethicist for the Chicago Booth Review. His articles have been featured in The New Republic, Harper's, Fortune, Bloomberg, The Washington Post, Slate, The Paris Review, and The Atlantic, earning recognition from the Society of American Business Editors and Writers in their 2017 'Best Business' Competition. A graduate of Harvard College, Rollert earned his JD from Yale Law School and his PhD from the John U. Nef Committee on Social Thought at the University of Chicago. In 2005, he taught courses at Harvard focusing on ethics, politics, and leadership.
