Biography

John Carlos Rowe is the USC Associates Professor of Humanities specializing in English, American Studies and Ethnicity, and Comparative Literature at the University of Southern California. He is recognized as one of the leading Americanists, closely associated with the emergence of the 'new American studies' and its global expansion. Rowe has published extensively on Henry James and the intersections of nineteenth-century American literature with postmodern theory and U.S. imperialism. His notable works include 'Emerson’s Tomb: Politics of Classic American Literature' and 'Afterlives of Modernism: Liberalism, Transnationalism and Political Critique.' He has received numerous awards for his contributions to teaching and research, including the Mellon Mentoring Award and a Distinguished Teaching Award from the University of California, Irvine.
