Biography

John J. Ruszkiewicz is a Professor Emeritus at the University of Texas at Austin, where he has taught literature, rhetoric, and writing for forty years. He earned his PhD in English from Ohio State University in 1977 after completing his BA at St. Vincent College in 1972. During his career, he was instrumental in creating the Department of Rhetoric and Writing in 1993 and directed the unit from 2001 to 2005. He served as president of the Conference of College Teachers of English (CCTE) in Texas, and received the Frances Hernández Teacher–Scholar Award in 2012. Ruszkiewicz has authored numerous influential books, including the 'Scott, Foresman Handbook for Writers' (9th edition, 2010), 'Write Anything' (3rd edition, 2015), and 'Everything’s Argument' (7th edition, 2016). His most recent publication is the 'Reader’s Guide to College Writing'. He has been recognized for his excellence in teaching, winning the President's Associates Teaching Excellence Award in 1981, and the Texas Blazers Staff Excellence Award in 2009.
