Biography

John M Seubert is an Adjunct Associate Professor in the Department of Pharmacology at the University of Alberta. He holds a BSc in Biology with an emphasis on Toxicology from Simon Fraser University, obtained in 1992, an MSc in Aquatic Toxicology from Simon Fraser in 1997, and a PhD in Pharmacology and Toxicology from the University of Western Ontario in 2002. His research interests focus on the cardioprotective roles of fatty acids, specifically how cytochrome P450-derived metabolites of arachidonic acid contribute to cellular tissue homeostasis and injury reduction. His work utilizes various models, including mouse models, to study the protective effects of epoxyeicosatrienoic acids (EETs) on heart function during ischemia-reperfusion injury. Dr. Seubert is also investigating the potential therapeutic targets within EET metabolism pathways. His extensive publication record includes studies on the effects of resveratrol on skeletal muscle performance in heart failure, and genetic deletion of soluble epoxide hydrolase's cardioprotective responses in myocardial infarction. He is an active contributor to the field through both research and teaching, with substantial expertise in mitochondrial dynamics and the regulatory mechanisms involved in cardiomyocyte survival under stress conditions.
