Biography

John H. Shaw joined Harvard Faculty in 1997 and leads an active research program investigating the structure of Earth’s crust. His program in Structural Geology and Tectonics emphasizes studies of active faults for earthquake hazards assessment, regional tectonics of mountain belts and plate margins, community fault velocity modeling, and subsurface energy development storage including carbon sequestration and environmental impacts associated with these activities.
