Biography

John W. Simpson-Porco received his B.Sc. degree in engineering physics from Queen's University in Kingston, Canada in 2010 and his Ph.D. degree in mechanical engineering from the University of California at Santa Barbara in 2015. He is currently an Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Waterloo, Canada. Previously, he worked as a visiting scientist at the Automatic Control Laboratory at ETH Zurich in Switzerland. His research focuses on control optimization, multi-agent systems, and networks, with applications in modernized power grids. Dr. Simpson-Porco has received several awards, including the IFAC Automatica Prize and the Center for Control, Dynamical Systems, and Computation Thesis Award, as well as an Outstanding Scholar Fellowship.
