Dr. John Sinclair

Biography

John Sinclair is a Professor and Director at the Natural Resources Institute at the University of Manitoba. He obtained his Ph.D. in Geography from the University of Waterloo in 1991 and has been actively involved in teaching and research since then. His professional focus lies in environmental decision-making, particularly how public and community participation can influence governance processes for sustainable transitions. He teaches courses in environmental assessment and governance, and engages students in a range of field research seminars. His research interests include examining environmental impact assessment practices, with a specific emphasis on Indigenous stakeholder involvement in the Canadian Arctic, as well as exploring environmental justice issues in regions like India. John is a member of several professional organizations and has held leadership roles in environmental initiatives and committees, including the Sustainability Committee at the University of Manitoba, emphasizing the importance of community engagement in resource governance.
