Professor Dr. John Sloggett

Biography

John Sloggett's research encompasses diverse interests in animal ecology, with a particular emphasis on the dietary habitat ecology of predators and the increasing direct and indirect effects that humans exert on the animal communities that share their environments. His approaches encompass a broad spectrum, employing both field-based and laboratory-based studies, and he specializes in chemical and physiological ecology. The primary organisms of study for Sloggett include aphid-eating ladybird beetles, but his work also involves various other animals such as amphibians, leeches, bats, and flatworms. In addition to his research endeavors, Sloggett is actively engaged in teaching, offering general courses and skill-based training in ecology and zoology, as well as specialized courses focused on chemical and physiological ecology. He coordinates several important courses including BIO2002 Ecology, PRA2009 Field Skills in Biology, BIO2004 General Zoology, PRA2013 Practical Zoology, BIO3002 Ecophysiology, and INT3009 Chemical Ecology.
