Biography

Dr. John Stead received his PhD in Genetics from the University of Leicester, UK, in 2000. He completed postdoctoral fellowships at the University of Leicester in 2002 and at the Mental Health Institute, University of Michigan, in 2004. Before becoming an associate professor in the Department of Neuroscience at Carleton University, he served as an assistant and associate professor in the Department of Psychology at Carleton University from 2004 to 2010. His research interests span genetics and genomics, focusing on genetic analysis of susceptibility to diabetes and studying genetic and genomic factors associated with depression in humans. Dr. Stead's current research involves the use of bioinformatics tools to understand genomic responses to environmental toxins. He is also eligible to supervise students at both undergraduate and graduate levels, teaching courses such as NEUR 3001: Data Analysis in Neuroscience and NEUR 3002: Data Analysis in Neuroscience II.
