Biography

John Tesmer is the Walther Distinguished Professor at Purdue University in the Department of Biological Sciences. His research focuses on understanding the structure and function of eukaryotic signaling proteins and cholesterol metabolizing enzymes. His lab employs advanced techniques such as small-angle X-ray scattering, X-ray crystallography, and single particle cryo-electron microscopy to unravel the molecular basis of G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR)-mediated signal transduction. Tesmer aims to determine the structures of signaling proteins and their complexes to provide insights into diseases caused by dysfunctional regulation and to leverage this information for the development of new therapeutic approaches. He has worked with numerous post-doctoral fellows and has mentored graduate students, focusing on scientific mentoring and service. Tesmer has served on various editorial boards and study sections and has received significant extramural funding from NIH and other sources.
