Dr. John Tuomey

Biography

John Tuomey is a seasoned architect with a career spanning over 40 years, based in Dublin. He graduated from University College Dublin in 1976 and initially worked with prominent architect James Stirling in Stuttgart, designing elements of the Staatsgalerie. After returning to Dublin in 1981, he joined the Office of Public Works and co-founded O’Donnell + Tuomey in 1988. Tuomey has contributed significantly to architecture through his leadership at Group 91, where he developed the masterplan for the regeneration of Temple Bar, Dublin's cultural center. He has held teaching positions at various prestigious institutions, including an inaugural professorship in Architectural Design at University College Dublin in 2019. Tuomey is an honorary fellow of the American Institute of Architects and a member of Aosdána. His collaborative work has been acknowledged with awards, including the RIBA Royal Gold Medal and the Brunner Prize from the American Academy of Arts and Letters. He co-authored 'Architecture, Craft, Culture' and is actively engaged in design education, influencing a new generation of architects.
