Dr. John Whitcomb

Biography

John Whitcomb is a Professor of Aerospace Engineering at Texas A&M University. He received his Ph.D. in Materials Engineering Science from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in 1988. Prior to that, he obtained his Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Stanford University in 1976 and a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from North Carolina State University in 1973. His research interests include the prediction of damage initiation and growth in cryogenic composites and foams. He specializes in multiscale computational mechanics, focusing on both nano and macro aspects of materials. Whitcomb's work also encompasses multifunctional materials, numerical simulation techniques for electric double-layer capacitors, and mechanics of textile composites and polymer films. He is known for developing novel finite element analysis strategies to enhance understanding in these areas.
