Biography

John Edgar Wideman is a distinguished author and Asa Messer Professor Emeritus at Brown University, specializing in Africana Studies and Literary Arts. He has written over 20 books, including both fiction and non-fiction, with notable works such as "Fires," "Cattle Killing," and "Philadelphia Fire." Wideman has received numerous prestigious awards for his contributions to literature, including the O. Henry Award, the MacArthur Fellowship, and the Lannan Literary Award for Fiction. He is a two-time winner of the Pen/Faulkner Prize. Wideman teaches a diverse range of courses, focusing particularly on creative writing, literary criticism, and African-American literature.
