Biography

John Williams is a Professor of English at Yale University specializing in Comparative Literature. He received his Ph.D. in Comparative Literature from the University of California, Irvine in 2008, following a Master of Arts in the same field from the same institution in 2002. He also holds a Master of Arts in English Literature from Utah State University and a Bachelor of Arts from Brigham Young University. His academic work primarily focuses on international histories, technological and media innovation, and perceived differences in racial and cultural otherness. His published book, 'Buddha Machine: Art, Technology, Meeting East West', released by Yale University Press in 2014, explores the role of technological discourse in the representations of Asian American aesthetics during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. This work was awarded the Harry Levin Prize by the American Comparative Literature Association in 2015. He has also published various articles in notable journals and is currently working on a manuscript titled 'Oracles of World Time'.
