Dr. John Young

Biography

Professor John Young works at UNSW Canberra, where he specializes in unsteady fluid dynamics and fluid-structure interaction (FSI). He has an extensive academic background, with a PhD from UNSW Canberra and an undergraduate degree from Sydney University. His research encompasses computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations of moving boundary flows across various regimes, including laminar, transitional, and turbulent flows. He applies his work in various interdisciplinary fields, including energy generation and conversion, biomedical engineering, and aerospace engineering. Notably, his projects include studies on blood flow in blood vessels, aerodynamic studies, and the design of bio-inspired flapping wings in both nature and engineering applications. His contributions also extend to elite sports performance where he analyzes drag reduction techniques in cycling and swimming.
