Biography

JoLee Sasakamoose is an Anishinaabe (Ojibwe) member of the M'Chigeeng Nation in Ontario and an active citizen of the Ahtahkakoop Cree Nation in Saskatchewan. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Social Science from Michigan State University, a Master of Science in Human Development, Counseling, and Family Studies from the University of Rhode Island, and a Doctorate in Philosophy from Michigan State University focusing on Higher, Adult, and Lifelong Education. JoLee serves as the Chair of the Educational Psychology and Counseling program at the University of Regina and teaches courses such as Group Counseling, Counseling Children and Youth, Girls and Women, Indigenous Family Therapies, and Decolonizing Research Methodologies. She co-authored the Indigenous Cultural Responsiveness Theory (ICRT), which aims to enhance health research for Indigenous peoples in Saskatchewan. JoLee is the Wellness Research Director at the Muskiki Muskwa Medicine Bear Healing Lodge and is involved with the Indigenous Wellness Research Community Network (IWRCN) to help individuals recovering from historical traumas. She also directs the Wellness Wheel Medical Clinic, focusing on interdisciplinary care in urban health settings. JoLee is a Principal Investigator for the Canadian Institutes Health Research Network Environments Indigenous Health Research program, overseeing research in Métis communities in Saskatchewan.
