Jolene van der Kaap-Deeder completed her Bachelor's degree in Psychology in 2008, along with an Honours program the same year. She later obtained a Research Master's degree in Cognitive Clinical Neuroscience with a focus on psychopathology from Maastricht University in 2010. Following her education, Jolene earned her PhD and completed a two-year postdoctoral fellowship at Ghent University in Belgium, where she researched the impact of social contexts, particularly parental influences, on individuals' basic psychological needs as articulated in Self-Determination Theory. In 2020, she took on the role of Associate Professor on a tenure-track position at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology, focusing on the proactive roles that young adults can assume in shaping their emotional experiences within family contexts, particularly through the longitudinal data gathered from the Trondheim Early Secure Study (TESS). Additionally, Jolene serves as an associate editor for the journal Frontiers in Personality and Social Psychology, specializing in the psychological implications of personality and social behavior. Currently, she lectures at Utrecht University's Department of Clinical Psychology and actively supervises master's thesis students.
