Dr. Jon Beasley Murray

Biography

Jon Beasley-Murray is an Associate Professor in the Department of French, Hispanic and Italian Studies at the University of British Columbia. He holds a Ph.D. from Duke University. His research interests focus on the cultural, literary, and political history of Latin America, particularly during periods of leftist social movements and colonial history. He examines maritime links to Spain and develops theoretical frameworks through cultural studies and Marxist theory, engaging with thinkers such as Deleuze, Guattari, Bourdieu, and Negri. His works include 'Posthegemony,' a notable publication by the University of Minnesota Press, along with various co-edited volumes discussing contemporary Latin American studies.
