Dr. Jon Estrada

Biography

Jon Estrada is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Michigan, focusing on experimental mechanics and the characterization of soft biomaterials. He obtained his Ph.D. in Solid Mechanics from Brown University in 2017, after earning a Master of Science in the same field from Brown in 2013 and a Bachelor of Science in Materials Science and Engineering from MIT in 2011. Estrada's research interests include high-speed rheometry, magnetic resonance, inverse techniques, inertial cavitation dynamics, photoacoustic laser microscopy, cell mechanics, and image processing techniques such as digital image volume correlation. His work is instrumental in developing new methodologies to characterize mechanically graded soft materials, which has significant implications for various industrial applications. Recently, he received the NSF CAREER Award, further highlighting his contributions to the field and his commitment to mentoring students in his Experimental Soft Mechanics Lab.
