Professor Dr. Jon Haarder

Biography

Jon Helt Haarder is an Associate Professor at the University of Southern Denmark, specializing in literary studies with a focus on Danish literature. His research interests encompass modernism, masculinity, class, and the Modern Breakthrough, particularly in the Nordic context. He has contributed to the academic discourse on literary theory and history, exploring topics such as deconstruction, post-criticism, and the author question in literary studies. Haarder was influential in the conceptualization of 'Performative Biographism' in 2014, which has guided research into autofiction and cultural history within Denmark. He has actively participated in the research project 'Uses Literature: The Social Dimensions of Literature' from 2016 to 2021, working on various literary epochs ranging from Classical Greek to Postmodernism. Recently, he received a grant for a research project titled 'Reassembling Ghetto,' collaborating with a PhD student to examine the representation of residential areas referred to as ghettos in Danish literature. His upcoming publications include a high school textbook focusing on literary history and an academic monograph addressing the complex dynamics of rural-urban relations in Nordic literature.
